About Jeff

Hi, I’m Jeff. I play the piano. Actually, I play music on the piano; sometimes classical, often jazz, quite often salsa.  I also write in these genres.  And I have played a writer and player of each on TV and in the movies.  I also sing, I play guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, drums, and organ, and I direct choirs and chamber ensembles.

So, you need some more convincing? I lead a group that features my original compositions and arrangements of popular jazz tunes.  Click here to listen to some clips.  Seriously, do it right now!  I’ve been described as having “a fresh new take on the jazz repertoire,” (L.A. Jazz Scene) and as “a very fiery, strong soloist” (Los Angeles Times Music Reviews).  They say that I enjoy playing “tunes not often heard, and [my] trio swings hard together.”

I earned a Master’s Degree at the University of Southern California.  I got to study with founding “Yellowjackets” member Russell Ferrante.  I earned an undergraduate degree in music at California State University of Northridge, where I studied composition, arranging, performance, and improvisation.  I studied piano with noted pianist and composer, Matt Harris.  My own piano and vocal students have gone on to attend such schools as USC, CSUN, the Musicians Institute, and Berklee College of Music.

After graduating from USC, I continued making music with friends both new and old.  Some of the things I’ve been up to?  I direct choirs, I direct chamber ensembles, I perform as the vocal soloist with ensembles, and I play piano, guitar, bass guitar, drums, ukulele, and organ.  I’ve been the music director for various bands and ensembles, and I compose and arrange for all kinds of different styles and instrumentation.

I enjoy on camera work in addition to live playing.  I worked as a musical advisor for the TV show “Boston Public,” and I appeared in the Warner Bros movie “The Majestic” starring Jim Carrey, specials for SiTV, as well as various cable television movies.  I’ve played live on camera (most recently for an episode of “The Crazy Ones”) and I appeared on the occasional episode of “Glee.”  I’m a member of ASCAP.  In my spare time I like riding my bicycle, snowboarding, and playing soccer. I also like to ride my Triumph Daytona on windy roads.

So like I said a few paragraphs ago, click on the Listen link at the top of this page, check some of my tunes out, and then contact me!  I’m sure you need somebody to play for you, compose for you, sing for you . . . whatever!  You name it, I can do it well.  And I’ll make you look good in the process.
