Jeff Mikusky began his musical experience at the age of 8; studying classical piano at his home in Simi Valley, California. He also became proficient at the organ and saxophone, but chose to focus on piano while attending high school. While at Royal High, Jeff became the instigator of various projects with other music students. At the age of 14, Jeff was forming groups to perform for corporate events, functions at the nearby Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, and the occasional club date.

Jeff Mikusky has been described as having "a fresh new take on the jazz repertoire," (L.A. Jazz Scene) and as "a very fiery, strong soloist" (Los Angeles Times Music Reviews). He enjoys playing "tunes not often heard, and his trio swings hard together." Over the years, he’s been fortunate to have played with many great jazz and salsa artists such as Francisco Aguabella, Pete Escovedo, Peter Michael Escovedo, Randy Brecker, Tony Banda, Jerry Steinholtz, Ronnie Cuber, Clay Jenkins, Bruce Paulson and Larry Koonse. Jeff has also shared the stage with Nobel Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Jeff performs regularly throughout Southern California with various groups. He has played in the Playboy Jazz Festival summer series, the Shanghai Jazz and Pop Festival in China, and both the KKJZ Jazz and Latin Jazz Caravans. Jeff has on-camera film and television experience, which includes episodes of the TV shows “Boston Public,” “Miss Match,” specials for SiTV, several movies for HBO, and the Warner Bros movie "The Majestic" starring Jim Carrey. Jeff has also performed for live radio, doing broadcasts for KCSN, and KKJZ DJ James Janisse’s weekly program "Jazz on the Latin Side."

Jeff currently leads “The Jeff Mikusky Trio” (clever title, huh?), a group that features his original compositions and arrangements of popular jazz standards. The group features Jeff, Willis Clow on guitar, and Chris Hackman on bass. When we’re lucky, we get to play with Dick Weller on drums. Jeff is also a member of the Benny Golbin quartet, which features Benny, Jeff, Dustin Morgan on bass and Dick Weller.

Jeff has worked extensively as a teacher, with his piano and vocal students going on to attend such schools as USC, CSUN, the Musicians Institute and Berklee College of Music. He has also delivered lectures on music history and performance practice.

Jeff is a graduate of the California State University of Northridge where he studied composition, arranging, performance and improvisation with Matt Harris, Gary Pratt and Rob Lockhart. He earned a Masters Degree at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California where he studied with Alan Pasqua, Shelton Berg, founding “Yellowjackets” member Russell Ferrante, John Thomas and Kim Richmond.

In his limited spare time, Jeff’s an avid runner, snowboarder and surfer. If he’s inside, it’s because he’s either practicing or in front of a TV cheering for the Dodgers.
